IEDF Networking Event – Gqerberha, Eastern Cape

The Informal Economy Development rolled out the IEDF Networking Events campaign across South Africa with the aim to inform, educate, and uplift the Informal & Micro businesses.

Similarly, these events serve to bring the challenges of informal & micro businesses directly to those in authority within one central time and venue. Having the presence of local government, and government agencies together with informal & micro businesses, presents an ideal opportunity for serious dialogue on how to unlock opportunities which could benefit those who until now have not been privy to them.

On the 17 May 2023, a Networking Event was held at the Gelvandale Community Hall in Gqerberha, Eastern Cape with IEDF Ambassador Sorraiya Ahmed who inspired the attendees with the vision and mission of IEDF. The event was attended by informal & micro businesses who contributed immensely and meaningfully to the event. In attendance was local municipality leaders who addressed the businesses.

The IEDF understands that it is important to try and measure the size of the informal economy because of its significance, and also because it employs some of the world’s most vulnerable people, and understanding the drivers and consequences of informality is central to sustainable and inclusive development. We would like to commend IEDF Ambassador Sorraiya Ahmed for her outstanding contribution and her drive to raise awareness in her community on the advantages of informal business unification.

The Networking Event was yet another opportunity to bring informal & micro businesses together to connect and receive opportunities from the IEDF together with government, and government agencies.
